Ha! Amusingly Defaced Street Signs

Let’s stipulate: This is kind of juvenile.

But a basic Google search did not turn up any results for a photo gallery of defaced street signs. And since the Internet must, by definition, contain everything, natural law dictates that we create one immediately.

So here is a gallery of cunningly altered street signs from many different times and places. We have tried to stick mainly (but not exclusively) with ones that are funny and/or interesting. They range from obscure and inspired (“This Is A Fad”) to shamelessly fratty (well, a lot of the rest…).

If you have in any notable specimens stored away on your digital camera, mail ‘em in and we’ll post another gallery.

UPDATE: Thanks, and we’ve posted a new gallery here.

Always stop for the claw.

The flashing red hand should still be read as “Caution,” not “Ozzie… Ozzie…”

no-porking

For safety’s sake.

bush-in-a-dress-xing

What kind of person wouldn’t be cautious around them?

merry-christmas-from-down-under

Touching in its careful craftsmanship.

push-button-porn

Ah, youth.

from-1-planet

Almost cloying… but still manages clever.

only-a-fad

It always is.

ew-taint

Truly.

Simple, elegant.

And, finally, the infectious Mr. Mustache

Many, many years ago, before camera phones, almost before the internets themselves, a sign on my way home from work advised me I could “Bark all day for $7.” More than once I considered taking them up on the offer…

many years ago, on the campus of the University of Iowa, the University created building signs with stick-um letters. Probably not the best choice, as one directional sign pointed to the “Wombat Seaquarium”.

From Croydon, U.K. Here’s another that is unintentionally funny without having been altered. It’s kind of hard to read because of the angle, but “underpass” was abbreviated to . . .

  17. The given examples are quite hilarious, it definitely is one way to express our opinions or anger about society. Unfortunately, these signs and walls are mostly not ours alone. It is difficult to remove the graffiti and stains and this is why the need for the proper venue to express such frustrations need to be addressed.
